My Child Is on a Section 504 Plan
: Intro > IEP/504/None > ... > Manifestation Team > Not a Manifestation of Disability > Drugs, Alcohol
The manifestation team determined that my child's behavior was:
not a manifestation of his or her disability and the behavior involved drugs or alcohol.*
Response:
Whether the school district decides to expel, suspend for more than five school days, alternative educational services must be provided to the same extent that students without disabilities are provided educational services.
Tip: Although your child may be suspended or expelled, you may wish to ask the Section 504 team to develop a Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP)* that includes services and modifications to address the behavior violation so that it is less likely to happen again when he or she returns to school. You also may wish to request that your child be evaluated for special education services.
