In Memoriam
Paula Goldberg, PACER Center Executive Director
Leading PACER 1977 - 2022
PACER’s board and staff invite you to share a tribute or favorite memory.
Paula was one of the few remaining link to the pioneer generation of parent advocacy. She was fiercely dedicated to the parent center movement, and parent center staff, past or present, from all over the country have stood on her shoulders. She was also a welcoming and gracious presence every time I encountered her. She will be missed.

I suggest we make it clear to legislators at state and federal levels that although Paula is gone, she leaves behind a fierce cohort of advocates and parents trained to lobby for the needs of disabled students and their families as she did. This is also the perfect time to fully fund special education in Paula's honor. Remember if you found Ms Goldberg to be a persistent advocate, you certainly should worry about her ghost haunting you in capitol halls on behalf of families. May her memory be for a blessing

We are so grateful for Paula's strong leadership in the disabilities community, her impact was tremendous not only for individuals, and families but other nonprofit organizations that served individuals with disabilities. She was a mentor and friend to all. Thank you, Paula!

Paula has always been a friend to DEED as together we have worked to enhance the economic and social self-sufficiency of youth with disability. Paula has provided us with technical assistance and training we will needed it. Her passion to serve such youth has been awe inspiring and has given us the inspiration to do our work. May her memory always be for a blessing. May she always be bound up in the bond of everlasting life and everlasting love.

Tenacious with a smile. That's how I remember Paula. You can tell a lot about a leader as a person and a manager by their employees and volunteers. Paula recruited the best and the best stayed. Virginia and Dixie come to mind. PACER was there every step of the way to help us get the very best for our son. My IEP files, runneth over, all because of Paula. Finally, Paula listened and stepped out ahead of so many others. I remember a meeting at our old headquarters, a small office above Pepito' Mexican restaurant. The agenda, should we move. The rest is history. Well done to a passionate and compassionate leader.

I received the news of Paula’s death with great sadness. She was a “force of nature” whose tireless efforts on behalf of struggling kids - and their families - impacted the lives of thousands. I will always appreciate and cherish Paula’s faith in me and my message when I was a fledgling speaker. Her encouragement and her inspiration were so important to me than…. and now. Rest well, my friend. You and yours will be often I’m my thoughts and always in my prayers.
