Workshops

PACER Center offers free workshops throughout Minnesota to parents of children with disabilities and the professionals working with families.

Workshop topics include areas of interest in special education, including information on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) program, early childhood, the area of transition for students 14-21 (housing, post secondary, employment, and community), assistive technology, and many more!

  • Creation Station: Get Crazy with Clay
    However you squish it, squash it, or squeeze it, Sclupey™ clay gives shape to your imagination. Make a colorful keychain, necklace, or anything else you can dream up. Creation Station staff will lead activities as well as inspire attendees to make amazing works of art. All Creation Station events are free but registration is required. Staff and volunteers will be present to facilitate activities; however, adults must stay to supervise as needed.

  • Getting and Keeping the First Job - see flyer pdf icon
    Competitive employment is the cornerstone of a successful transition to adult living for youth with disabilities. This workshop will provide youth and parents with straight answers to important questions about finding employment. Speakers include: A representative from Vocational Rehabilitation, who will talk about VR's program and avoiding pitfalls when working with employment service systems, and an employer who will talk about the successes and struggles youth with disabilities can experience on the job and what qualities businesses seek in employees.

  • PACER Hosts a Viewing of the Movie "Including Samual"
    PACER Center is excited to offer a showing of the movie "Including Samuel," produced by photojournalist Dan Habib. This one-hour, award-winning film is designed to help schools, families, community groups, and others work toward educational inclusion in an informed and innovative way. It examines the educational and social inclusion of youth with disabilities. The film features Habib’s son Samuel and his family as well as four other families with a variety of inclusion experiences. Interviews with teachers, parents, and disability rights experts are also included.
    Following the viewing, PACER staff will lead a discussion on the film.
