Become a Partner or Champion: Show Your Support for Bullying Prevention During National Bullying Prevention Month in October

PACER is reaching out to all communities, organizations and schools across the country to unite against bullying. Show your support and share your efforts to prevent bullying by becoming a Partner or Champion of this cause during National Bullying Prevention Month. Your organization will be listed on PACER’s website with a link to your website, along with a list of any activities or events you are planning in connection with the month. Sign on as a Partner or Champion during National Bullying Prevention Month!

Partners are national organizations that have bullying prevention initiatives, help children with disabilities, or focus on educational opportunities for all children. Partners are asked to disseminate information about National Bullying Prevention Month through their media channels. Become a national partner!

Champions are national, state and local schools and organizations that are holding events, providing classroom activities or raising community awareness in connection with National Bullying Prevention Month. Sign on now!

OSERS Names Deputy Assistant Secretary and OSEP Director

The U.S. Department of Education recently announced that two key staff positions have been filled. Sue Swenson has been named the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) Deputy Assistant Secretary and Melody Musgrove will become Director of the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).

Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD) Seeks Survey Participants

Take a quick, five-question survey before the end of August and help ADD shape the direction of new services. ADD wants to hear from individuals with disabilities, their families, service providers and the public. Take the survey  

United Way and CFC Can Support PACER

PACER Center is eligible for donations made through United Way campaigns and Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), the workplace charity campaign for federal civilian, military, and postal employees. PACER is a tax-exempt 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization.

United Way
The United Way accommodates employees wanting to support PACER. United Way pledge cards have a Donor Choice location in which to write PACER’s name and address (PACER Center, Inc., 8161 Normandale Blvd., Minneapolis, MN 55437).

CFC
Look for PACER in your local campaign booklet under the Children’s Charities of America (CCA) heading or alphabetically. You also can see a video about a PACER program by visiting cfcvideospeakersbureau.org and entering PACER as the keyword. To designate your gift to PACER, use code 12272. This code is unique to PACER and should be used under any heading where you see PACER’s name listed.

Explore Assistive Technology at Simon Technology Center’s Open House


Sample assistive technology (AT) and learn how it can make a difference for children with disabilities at the annual Simon Technology Open House. It’s Saturday, Oct.  2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at PACER Center. The popular annual event for children, parents and professionals includes demonstrations of AT, educational software and resources, as well as fun and interactive activities for both children and adults. The event is free, but registration is required. Children are welcome and encouraged to attend! Register here

PACER’s Archived Webinars Provide On-demand Workshops

PACER’s archived webinars cover a wide range of topics and provide workshop information that can be accessed anywhere and at any time. Topics include “Planning for Educational Inclusion,”  “The House of IDEA,” “Charter Schools and Special Education” and more. PACER’s seventh annual Housing Resource and Information Fair will be Saturday, Oct. 9, 9 a.m. to noon at PACER Center. The event is an opportunity for families of young adults with disabilities and service providers to meet and discuss housing options, services, supports, and related issues. More

Parent Training Modules Help Families Promote Children’s Social and Emotional Skills

The Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning has developed parent training modules that help families promote children’s social and emotional skills, understand children’s problem behaviors, and use positive approaches to help them learn appropriate behaviors. Encourage Early Literacy with These Guides

It’s never too early to start teaching your child literacy skills—including things such as listening, speaking, enjoying books, and learning to use writing tools, such as crayons and markers. Practice Guides Especially for Parents can help families provide their infants, toddlers, or preschoolers with fun and exciting literacy learning experiences.Practice Guides Especially for Practitioners also are available. The guides are from the Center for Early Literacy Learning (CELL), a research-to-practice technical assistance center funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs, Research to Practice Division. Join IBM's World Community Grid

The World Community Grid is an IBM effort to link computers worldwide and put idle computer time to use in aiding projects that benefit humanity. The grid is built upon an IBM infrastructure and includes IBM support. To become part of the grid, members install a small, free software program on their computers. When their computers are on but not being used, the program connects to the World Community Grid’s server, performs computations, and sends the results back to the server. Members’ donated resources help increase the pace of research. Visit worldcommunitygrid.org, click Statistics > By Teams > Teams Created, then search for “PACER Center.” Join the team!
