PACER Center workshop in Anoka to focus on employment planning for transition-age youth with disabilities
Minneapolis: PACER Center will offer “The Bridge to Work: Supplemental Security Income and Employment Planning,” a free workshop for parents of teens and young adults with disabilities, and for professionals. The workshop will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1 in Erling Johnson Room C at the Anoka-Hennepin Staff Development Center, 2727 N. Ferry St., Anoka.
This workshop will provide information on the application process for Supplemental Security Income, and parents will learn how the Social Security Ticket to Work program and Vocational Rehabilitation can help their youth meet his or her postsecondary education, training, employment, and independent living goals.
A vocation rehabilitation counselor will discuss eligibility and employment services.
Parents of students in the 10th grade and beyond are encouraged to attend. Topics will include:
- How to apply for Supplemental Security Income benefits
- Advantages of using Social Security Work Incentives
- Examples of receiving benefits while working or going to school
- How Vocation Rehabilitation Services can help
Joani Werner, Social Security representative, will be providing information at the workshop.
