PACER Center to screen award-winning inclusion film in Bemidji

Minneapolis: PACER Center will present “Planning for Educational Inclusion: A Viewing of Including Samuel,” a free session for parents and professionals, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at the Holiday Inn Express, 2422 Ridgeway Ave. N.W., Bemidji.

Including Samuel is an award-winning film by photojournalist Dan Habib that examines the educational and social inclusion of youth with disabilities. It is designed to help schools, families, community groups, and others work toward educational inclusion in an informed and innovative way.

The film features Habib’s family and his son, Samuel, as well as four other families with a variety of inclusion experiences. Interviews with teachers, parents, and disability rights experts are also included.

PACER asks those attending the screening to think about the following questions:

  • What are the effects of being educated in an inclusive versus separated setting?
  • How does elementary school inclusion differ from inclusion in high school?
  • What factors are essential in making inclusion work well in a school system?
  • What roles do people play to make inclusion successful?

A PACER advocate will answer questions before and after the film.
