PACER Center to host workshop in St. Paul on Supplemental Security Income and employment planning for young adults with disabilities
Minneapolis: PACER Center will offer “The Bridge to Work: Supplemental Security Income and Employment Planning,” a free workshop for parents of teens and young adults with disabilities, and for professionals. The workshop will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27 at Neighborhood House at Wellstone Center (Room 212, Anna Heilmaier Meeting Room), 179 Robie St. E., St. Paul.
This workshop will provide information on planning for and obtaining employment, and how Supplemental Security Income benefits may be helpful during this process. Parents will learn how Social Security Work Incentives, Vocational Rehabilitation, and other employment programs can help their youth meet his or her postsecondary education, training, employment, and independent living goals.
Parents of students in 10th grade and beyond are encouraged to attend. Topics will include employment services, how to apply for Supplemental Security Income benefits, advantages of using Social Security Work Incentives, and examples of receiving benefits while working or going to school.
Joani Werner, Social Security representative will be providing information at the workshop.
