PACER Center to host workshop about the basics of Supplemental Security Income for transition-age youth with disabilities
Minneapolis: PACER Center will offer “Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Basics: Taking the First Steps,” a free workshop for parents of youth ages 17 and older with disabilities. The workshop will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6 at PACER Center, 8161 Normandale Blvd., Minneapolis.
This will be an interactive small group for parents of transition-age youth with disabilities who are in the beginning stages of applying for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and wondering if it is right for their son or daughter. The number of participants will be limited, and registration is required.
The workshop will address what SSI is and why it might be helpful; how eligibility for SSI is defined; how long it takes before benefits start; what information parents need to provide; and what pitfalls to avoid.
