PACER offers early childhood workshop on the IFSP and IEP

PACER Center is offering “Understanding the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) and Individualized Education Program (IEP),” a free workshop for parents of young children with disabilities. It is on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Kandiyohi County Health and Community Services Building, 2200 23rd St. NE., Willmar, Minn. Advance registration is requested.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires states to provide certain services to eligible children with developmental delays or disabilities. This workshop will help parents of young children understand the essential components of the IFSP and the IEP.

Participants will learn about:

  • The different criteria for early intervention and preschool services
  • Timelines for the evaluation process
  • Writing measurable goals
  • Families’ rights within the special education process
  • Ways to resolve differences

To register for the workshop, call PACER at 952-838-9000 or 952-838-0190 (TTY). In Greater Minnesota, call 800-537-2237 (toll free) or visit PACER.org.

PACER Center is a parent center for families of children and young adults with any disability. PACER provides individual assistance, workshops, publications, and other resources to help families make decisions about education and other services for their child or young adult with disabilities.
