PACER Center to show film on inclusion of students with disabilities
PACER Center is showing “Including Samuel,” an award-winning film on inclusion, produced by photojournalist Dan Habib. It is designed for students, families, and others who want to work toward inclusion in educational settings. It will be shown on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Quality Inn, 4040 Second St. S., St. Cloud, Minn. Advance registration is requested.
The film examines educational and social inclusion of youth with disabilities and features Habib’s son, Samuel, and other family members. Interviews with teachers, parents, and disability rights experts are included.
Following the viewing, PACER staff will lead a discussion on the film, addressing such questions as:
• What roles do people play to make inclusion successful?
• How does inclusion differ in elementary school and high school?
• What are the effects of being educated in an inclusive versus separated setting?
• What factors are essential in making inclusion work well in a school system?
To register, call PACER at 952-838-9000 or 952-838-0190 (TTY). In Greater Minnesota, call 800-537-2237 (toll free) or visit PACER.org.
PACER Center is a parent center for families of children and young adults with any disability. PACER provides individual assistance, workshops, publications, and other resources to help families make decisions about education and other services for their child or young adult with disabilities.
