PACER Center is offering “Special Education Parent Policy Leader Workshop,” a free event for parent leaders. It is on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, from 1 to 5 p.m., in room 112 at the State Capitol, 75 Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., St. Paul, Minn. Advance registration is required.

This workshop is for parents who want to learn and practice skills needed to be effective in the legislative process.

Participants will:
  • Learn about the structure of the state legislature and how to have influence within it
  • Find out how a bill becomes a law
  • Discover how to prepare an effective personal story for an issue
  • Participate in a group exercise to create a bill and present supporting testimony. Elected officials will provide feedback.

To register, call PACER at 952-838-9000 or 952-838-0190 (TTY). In Greater Minnesota, call 800-537-2237 (toll free) or visit the PACER Web site at PACER.org. Directions and parking information will be mailed or e-mailed to all registered participants.
