PACER workshop addresses charter schools and special education
PACER Center is offering “Charter Schools and Special Education,” a free workshop for parents whose children have disabilities and for professionals. It is on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m., at PACER Center, 8161 Normandale Blvd., Bloomington, Minn. Advance registration is requested.As recipients of federal funds, charter schools must follow federal and state laws.
Participants will learn about:
- Federal and state laws regarding charter schools
- Questions for parents to ask when considering charter school enrollment
- Evaluation
- Communication
- The Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Section 504
- Accommodations
This workshop also gives parents an opportunity to network with parents of other children with disabilities who attend charter schools.
