Noted autism author presents PACER Center workshop
PACER Center is offering “Freedom from Meltdowns.” This free workshop by noted autism author Travis Thompson, Ph.D., is for parents of children with autism and professionals. It is on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at PACER Center, 8161 Normandale Blvd., Minneapolis, Minn. Space is limited.
Thompson defines meltdowns as emotional or behavioral outbursts triggered by something in the environment. He will explain meltdowns and offer preventive strategies.
Participants will:
- Learn how other disorders, health conditions, and mental health problems contribute to meltdowns in children with autism
- Explore the use of a functional behavioral assessment to uncover behavior patterns and develop effective positive intervention strategies
Thompson is supervising psychologist for the Minnesota Early Autism Project and a professor of pediatrics at the University of Minnesota. He is the grandparent of a child with autism.
