PACER workshop addresses independent living for youth with disabilities
PACER Center is offering “Housing and Services: Putting the Pieces Together,” a free workshop for parents of young adults with disabilities. It is on Monday, April 13, 2009, from 7 to 9:30 p.m., at PACER Center, 8161 Normandale Blvd., Bloomington, Minn. Advance registration is requested.
Parents will learn how a variety of housing models, services, and supports can be creatively tailored to their young adults with disabilities.
Housing professionals, young adults, and their families will share their stories on:
- How person-centered thinking helped define their independent-living decisions
- Which financial resources addressed their support needs and chosen housing option
- How they creatively combined services and supports in licensed and unlicensed settings.
Speakers include representatives from Hennepin Housing & Homeless Initiatives, Hennepin County Aging and Disability Services, and Cooperating Community Programs as well as a young adult and parent panel.
To register, call PACER at 952-838-9000 or 952-838-0190 (TTY). In Greater Minnesota, call 800-537-2237 (toll free) or visit the PACER Web site at PACER.org.
