PACER Center workshop focuses on transition planning for youth with disabilities
PACER Center is offering “Transition Planning and Community Resources: What You Need to Know.” This free workshop for parents of youth with disabilities and professionals is on Thursday, April 16, 2009, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Crookston High School Commons, 402 Fisher Ave., Crookston, Minn. Advance registration is requested.
The transition from school to community can be a difficult time for youth with disabilities and their families. This workshop, designed to help parents understand the critical need to plan for transition while a youth is still in school, features the following speakers and topics:
- Jayne Spain, transition specialist from the Minnesota Department of Education, will talk about “The Secondary Transition Planning Process.”
- Sean Roy from PACER Center will discuss community-based supports and highlight successful strategies for youth with disabilities to prepare for employment and post-secondary education.
