PACER Center workshop addresses positive communication
PACER Center is offering “Scripts for Positive Communications: Meeting Mental Health & Behavioral Needs for Children with Disabilities.” This free workshop for parents of children with disabilities and professionals is Thursday, March 12, 2009, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., at the Comfort Inn, 4040 Second St. S., St. Cloud, Minn. Advance registration is requested.
Communication between parents and schools can be challenging, especially when a student with a disability also has a mental health disorder or a behavioral need. This interactive workshop will help parents and professionals:
- Discover what the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) says about collaboration
- Recognize their communication attitude
- Learn effective written communication tools
- Develop a script for positive communication
To register, call PACER at 952-838-9000 or 952-838-0190 (TTY). In Greater Minnesota, call 800-537-2237 (toll free) or visit the PACER Web site at PACER.org.
PACER Center is a parent center for families of children and young adults with any disability. PACER provides individual assistance, workshops, publications, and other resources to help families make decisions about education and other services for their child or young adult with disabilities.
