PACER Center workshop addresses mental health and behavioral needs of students
PACER Center is offering “A Fitting Idea: Meeting Mental Health & Behavioral Needs for Children with Disabilities,” a free workshop for professionals and parents of children with disabilities and co-occurring mental health or behavioral needs. It is on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., at Kandiyohi County Health and Community Services Building, 2200 23rd St. NE, Willmar, Minn. Advance registration is requested.
Participants will learn how to use the Individualized Education Program (IEP) or the Individual Interagency Intervention Plan (IIIP) to meet their students’ needs.
Topics include:
- Understanding the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and its enhanced emphasis on positive behavioral interventions
- Requesting and using a Functional Behavioral Assessment
- Developing goals and related services to meet mental health and behavioral needs
- Writing a Positive Behavior Plan
- Understanding the difference between an IEP and the IIIP
